The Lyles Station Historic School & Museum will host its annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. (Central Time)
Juneteenth commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
Rhea Jones-Price, a 2013 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law and an associate at Joe Black Law Office in Vincennes, will be the guest speaker, followed by a recognition ceremony for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana for its funding for the outdoor shelter. The late Joyce Gooch Granger will also be honored for her years of service as a board member of the Lyles Station Historic Preservation Corporation board. Barbecue dinners will be sold by Tim’s Awesome BBQ.
The Juneteenth Celebration is free of charge and will be held on the grounds of the Lyles Station Historic School & Museum. The public is invited to attend.

The guest speaker will be Rev. Gerald C. Arnold, President of the NAACP Evansville branch and the Senior Pastor at Independence Missionary Baptist Church in Evansville, IN. BBQ dinners by Tim’s awesome BBQ will also be sold,
